a reminiscence what is left
a requiem to my foolish heart.
There are a few things in life that can make you a better person. To me, I put them into two categories; one is from Learning (experiences, mistakes, etc.), the other is from People (family members, love ones, friends and of course, rivals).
Since we live our lives, rivalry exists. Siblings rivalry is the earliest* contact that we came across (remember our days where we ‘compete’ with our siblings to win our parent’s affection?). Then came the ‘hormonal-rivalry’ (in short, you tried to win her/his heart from your uh…rivals). Then of course, when you get older, rivalry transform into different forms (e.g. from your company’s competitor to your colleague who work her/his way up the chain).
Recently I brushed with a ‘conscience-kicking’ situation. He is a very good friend of mine whom I found him quite flawless where he lived his life (work and personal). I do not put envy and jealousy into this account as I do not see him as my foe. A foe is someone you loathe and well best placed in hell (so I thought haha…) but he is not. He is my rival.
The phrase ‘Imitation is the highest form of flattery’ is dedicated for things/goods, whereas I find that being a rival is the highest form of flattery a person can get. People want to be a par as you, or even more than you. You are a BENCHMARK where people look up to. With all due respect to him, I thank the big G up there for showing the way for me to bring out my best to ‘out achieve’ him (or at least being the same level), to be a better man.
To conclude, I think a rival is actually a blessing in disguise. You will get a win-win situation. Even if you ‘loose’, you gain things from Learning. And that is PRICELESS.
If I’ll ever be flourished (if God’s willing) in the later stage of my life, you are one of the people I credited to. Thanks man!!

to be a better man.”

*Note: Actually this is not really the earliest contact. There is a moment where you have to ‘outrun’ your other uh…cells (?) to reach an egg and becoming…YOU. But this is just too corny to mention isn’t it? Haha….
